Armed robbers struck four times in a 15-minute span early today near the western tip of Virginia Commonwealth University’s main academic campus.
All four victims were in their early 20s, including two students at VCU, campus police confirmed. This morning’s attacks marked the second time in 14 days that a VCU student was injured in a robbery that occurred just off the Monroe Park campus.
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a gun free zone victim disarmament zone under the state’s administrative code (8VAC90-10-50), and specifically states that CHP holders are not exempt from this disarmament. Part of the VCU campus borders a very high-crime area in Richmond. If you follow that link to the crime map, you can see that most of those crimes are assaults, robberies, and thefts – crimes that are either violent by nature or have strong potential for violence if interrupted.
Kiniry said the victims — three males and one female — described their assailants as two black males, both in their early 20s and both between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall. One was wearing a long-sleeve white T-shirt and the other had a red shirt that was either a T-shirt or a hoodie. One had a small black handgun.
In victim disarmament zones, only the criminals will have guns, and because of that they will have free reign over their victims. Gun bans place the innocent at a potentially fatal disadvantage when confronted by criminals.
Elsewhere, at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk:
The Virginian-Pilot reports that several robberies and an assault have been reported since the beginning of the school year.
More crimes that are, by nature, violent. I don’t know if ODU is a victim disarmament zone by state code like VCU, or if – like most other Virginia universities, including Virginia Tech – they can only ban students and faculty from carrying.
The anti-gun crowd acts as if schools are protected by some magical barrier that keeps all violence and crime away, and as if that barrier goes with the students when they go to their off-campus apartments, jobs, or other activities. History and current events prove otherwise.
But in reality they don’t care who gets hurt, as long as there are no guns involved.
