the police could be 35 minutes away.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. – A Williamson County woman fought off an intruder with a vacuum cleaner. She was desperate for help, waiting for almost 35 minutes for law enforcement to arrive.
That’s right, 35 minutes. More than half an hour, waiting for someone to come and stop the criminal trying to break into her home. Someone who knew there was someone there. If she could see him through the windows, it’s pretty certain he could see her – yet he continued to try to force his way in.
What do you think someone like that is planning to do once he gets in?
Fortunately, they were able to fend him off until the police arrived.
“He gets in and I am screaming and I am still on 911 and Mrs. Amber Alabama gets the Shark Vacuum and gets them out the door,” said Ribeiro.
“It was really terrible, I had to beat him out the door with a vacuum cleaner,” said Amber Brinkley.
It worked, but a vacuum cleaner is not really the best choice to fight off an intruder. Especially when you have an 8 year old daughter to protect. In the situation she described, she had plenty of time to get a shotgun or pistol out of a quick access safe, which could have ended the danger immediately the moment he got through the door, and done so more reliably than trying to overpower him physically with a cleaning implement.
Remember, you are responsible for your own safety. The police have no obligation to protect you. There’s good reason behind that, but it also means that if you are in immediate danger, you may be waiting the rest of your life for them to arrive.
