Michael S. Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg: 8 March 1947 – 6 September 2011

I just read that Michael S. Hart, the founder of Project Gutenberg and inventor of the e-book, died Tuesday.

Interesting fact: The very first e-book was The Declaration of Independence.

Among other things, through Project Gutenberg, Mr. Hart has made many otherwise out of print books available to those who would not be able to afford (or simply find) the existing copies otherwise.

Let us have a moment of silence for a great man, and then everybody should download a book from Project Gutenberg today. They’ve got some great ones.

“Learning is its own reward.  Nothing I can say is better than that.”
